COVID-19 Updates

The APIEA Together with you

As we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together, APIEA is closely monitoring the situation, continuously tracking evolving policies from local authorities, and regularly communicating with our university, corporate, and logistics partners on updates and trends. We are optimistically preparing for global mobility to resume and are continuously developing innovative programs.

We also remain committed to providing international learning opportunities in which we can share a different perspective from the Asia Pacific with our university partners and students.

Travel Protocols in a Post-COVID World

With COVID-19 vaccines becoming more widely available, we are hopeful that in-person travel will resume in the near future and that once travel restrictions are lifted, if health protocols are understood and strictly followed, carefully executed study abroad trips will again be possible. There are certain things that will make global education trips different in a Post-COVID World:

Cultural Activities

At times, scheduled culture excursions or activities may be canceled or rescheduled due to limited access during this post-COVID time.

In an event that a visit is canceled, alternatives will be provided and decided on by the faculty leaders.

Academic Experience

Site visits to universities and company facilities may not be available or require additional documents. Information and instructions will be shared in advance.

In case a visit is canceled, alternatives will be provided and decided on by the faculty leaders.

Criteria for Carrying out a Program in a Post-COVID World

To help determine whether a program in a given destination can be run, APIEA will consider criteria such as:

– An Advisory Level of 3 or lower from the Center for Disease Control.
– Borders that are open to international travelers.
– The availability of visa applications if required for entry.
– Whether a US Embassy or Consulate is operating in specific countries/regions.

Updates from the Asia Pacific Area

In general, the case numbers and situation in the Asia Pacific region have remained positive and stable.

– According to the CDC’s COVID-19 Risk Assessment Level, only a few countries (like Thailand, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka) are listed as Level 3, while many others are listed as Levels 1 or 2.
– Most countries/regions in the Asia Pacific, with very limited exceptions, have not been open to international travelers.
– Vaccinations in the Asia-Pacific are expected to be widely available in mid-to-late 2021. The COVID-19 vaccine has already been approved in many countries/regions including mainland China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, and Indonesia.
